BLIK for you

BLIK for Business

21 million BLIK users gain access to e-commerce in the eurozone - BLIK builds interoperability and connects the Polish system with the European e-commerce network

BLIK, a Polish mobile payment system developed by Polish Payment Standard, is expanding its presence in the eurozone. Following the launch of BLIK payments in Slovakia in 2024, customers of Polish banks are now gaining access to thousands of e-commerce stores operating in that country. Pilot transactions carried out in March confirmed the readiness of the solution, and the friends & family testing phase begins in early April. This marks an important step in building BLIK payments in Europe – based on interoperability between markets and system participants. The next stage, planned for the end of 2026, will extend the solution to users of Slovak banks shopping in Polish e-commerce. Ultimately, all banks in the eurozone that implement BLIK will gain access to the network of e-commerce merchants operating in Poland.

Polish users to pay with BLIK in Slovak e-commerce

Initially, users in Poland will gain access to BLIK payments in Slovak online stores. They will be able to use this method when shopping online with merchants operating in that market. Transactions will be carried out in euros, enabling the use of BLIK within a eurozone payment environment. Before confirming the transaction, Polish users will see the exchange rate and the amount converted into Polish złoty. The service is provided by BLIK SK, which connects the Polish system with local e-commerce. Settlement and currency conversion will be carried out in cooperation with UniCredit Bank, while merchants will receive funds in euros. The scheme does not require any changes on the side of banks or mobile applications, which facilitates its implementation and expansion to additional market participants.

From the user’s perspective, this represents an extension of BLIK’s everyday use beyond Poland – for example, when booking accommodation, paying for services before travelling, or placing orders in local online stores. More than 21 million consumers in Poland will be able to use the solution.

For some time now, we have been saying that the future of payments in Europe lies in removing barriers between markets. Making BLIK available in the eurozone to users from Poland is a practical implementation of this approach, the Polish system gains access to the European e-commerce network, and bank customers can use the same payment method also for transactions in euros. The solution has been designed in a way that allows for gradual expansion of its reach and onboarding of additional market participants on both the acceptance and settlement sides. In this way, we are building a system that can operate within a broader European environment

, says Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, CEO of Polski Standard Płatności, the operator of BLIK.

The importance of this approach is growing alongside the scale of online commerce in Europe. According to Statista, the value of online sales is expected to reach approximately EUR 603 billion in 2026 and grow to over EUR 741 billion by 2030. During this period, the number of online shoppers will increase to around 570 million.

BLIK payments in two directions

In the next phase of the project, scheduled for completion in Q4 2026, the solution will be expanded to enable payments in the opposite direction. Users of Slovak banks will be able to pay with BLIK in Polish online stores, allowing seamless transactions between both markets. The full functionality of BLIK payments in e-commerce will be available throughout the project – both with and without a code, including support for refunds, complaints, and adjustments. Ultimately, this model will be rolled out across Europe.

Slovakia is an important eurozone market for us and a place where we have been developing cooperation with local partners for several years. The growing acceptance network and increasing interest from merchants and financial institutions demonstrate BLIK’s potential in this market. Expanding to payments between Poland and Slovakia will allow us to leverage this potential in practice and scale the solution across the region

, adds Dariusz Mazurkiewicz.

BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. The option to use BLIK in mobile banking applications is now available to virtually every customer of domestic payment institutions offering a mobile app. The company Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for developing the system. PSP continuously enhances BLIK’s functionality to make the system as user-friendly and versatile as possible. The shareholders of PSP are Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski, and Mastercard.
