BLIK is expanding its partnership with Stripe, making it possible for Stripe customers in over 30 countries to automatically offer BLIK across relevant shopping experiences.
For Polish consumers, this primarily means a greater chance of being able to choose BLIK when shopping at international online stores. From merchants’ perspective, offering a payment method preferred by Polish customers can, in turn, support sales in the Polish market. The availability of a relevant payment method at checkout remains one of the key factors influencing a customer’s decision to complete a purchase. BLIK, which accounts for more than 70% of transactions in Polish e-commerce, can help international merchants reach customers from Poland more effectively and increase conversion.
BLIK has become a natural part of the shopping journey in Polish e-commerce. We want users to be able to enjoy the same convenience when purchasing products and services from international merchants. Our partnership with Stripe gives us an opportunity to bring BLIK to merchants with whom we do not have a direct relationship,
says Magdalena Kubisa, Director of Bussiness Development at BLIK.
BLIK becomes more widely available through Stripe
Dynamic payment methods is part of Stripe’s existing payments infrastructure, so merchants do not need to build separate integrations with individual payment providers to offer local payment methods. BLIK can be enabled through Stripe and displayed to Polish users based on, among other factors, the location from which they initiate the transaction, as well as the currency and nature of the payment.
Solutions developed as part of the program are also designed to help tailor the entire checkout experience to individual users. This includes, among other things, displaying prices in the customer’s local currency and optimizing how available payment methods are presented. Stripe reports that businesses see a 46% average increase in conversion when they offer BLIK to customers in Poland.
The next stage of the BLIK–Stripe partnership
Making BLIK available on Stripe's dynamic payment methods builds on the existing cooperation between the two companies. Stripe already enables global brands to offer BLIK to Polish users. In July this year, as a result of the partnership between the two companies, BLIK Recurring Payments were made available to, among others, OpenAI users in Poland, allowing them to pay for service subscriptions, including access to ChatGPT Plus.
BLIK and Stripe also plan to jointly develop solutions that address the changing ways consumers shop online. One area of cooperation is agentic commerce – a model in which intelligent digital agents can assist users at successive stages of the shopping journey and, in the future, also facilitate payments, while maintaining appropriate security mechanisms and user control over the transaction.
BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. The option to use BLIK in mobile banking applications is now available to virtually every customer of domestic payment institutions offering a mobile app. The company Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for developing the system. PSP continuously enhances BLIK’s functionality to make the system as user-friendly and versatile as possible. The shareholders of PSP are Alior Bank, Millennium Bank, Erste Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski, and Mastercard.
