Phone-to-phone euro transfers from Spain to Poland – BLIK tests interoperability with additional European payment systems

The first pilot euro transfer from the Spanish payment system Bizum to a phone number enabled for receiving BLIK transfers at PKO Bank Polskihhas just been completed. This marks another step toward full interoperability between national mobile payment systems.

The pilot transfer from a Bizum user in Spain to a BLIK user via the IKO app of PKO Bank Polski forms part of the euro P2P pilot initiated by BLIK together with European partners at the end of 2025. During last year’s Web Summit 2025 conference in Lisbon, the first test transaction involving BLIK in euros was demonstrated – a transfer sent from the Portuguese MB WAY system to a phone number of a Santander Bank Polska customer. In line with announcements made at the conference, on 19 December the first PKO Bank Polski customer also received a foreign transfer sent by a Portuguese MB WAY user.

The newly completed transfer from Spain to Poland represents a further stage of technological integration aimed at enabling full interoperability between mobile payment systems operating across Europe. This means the ability to make seamless, instant phone-number-based transfers between users of different mobile payment systems in Europe, without the need to install additional applications.

The first phone-to-phone transfer from Spain to Poland is a milestone on the path to making interoperability between European systems a standard. Further tests and the expansion of partnerships are intended to bring us closer to the moment when a cross-border phone-number transfer will be as simple as a local P2P transaction – something nearly 450 million Europeans are waiting for

- says Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, CEO of BLIK.

Since joining the EuroPA association in 2025, BLIK has been working together with partners from Spain (Bizum), Portugal (SIBS), Italy (Bancomat) and the Nordic countries (Vipps) on interoperability for instant P2P phone-number transfers. Pilot implementations carried out to date confirm the technical readiness of the systems to execute such transactions in a production environment.

At the same time, BLIK is expanding its international presence in other areas. Users can already pay with BLIK abroad at payment terminals – contactlessly on Android devices, and soon also on iOS. Meanwhile, international e-commerce merchants serving customers from Poland can offer BLIK payments through cooperation with global payment service providers such as Adyen, Boku, Nikulipe, Nuvei, PAYPRO, PayU, PPRO, Stripe, Viva Wallet and Worldline. This option is already used by platforms including AliExpress, Booking, Google Play, Temu and Vinted.
